The Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV) administers the Graduate Nursing Midwifery Program (GNMP) Match on behalf of the Department of Health.
All Victorian public health services and two private health services participate in the Match to recruit registered nurses & midwives for graduate programs for 2027 placements.
Candidates are required to apply to PMCV and the Health Services in their preference list.Â

Eligibility Check & Priority Groups
Read Step 1 and Step 2 to ensure you are eligible for the Match.
Read Priority Group 1 and Priority Group 2 to ascertain which group you will be in. Priority Group 1 candidates will receive their allocations prior to Priority Group 2.
- Training completed between 1 Jan 2026 – 30 Jun 2027
- Eligible for Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Midwife (RM) registration with AHPRA
- Eligible to apply for the ongoing Right to Work in AustraliaÂ
- Trained in Australia or New Zealand
- Applying for your first graduate program
If you have previously completed an RN graduate program and are now studying Midwifery (Bachelor or PG), you may apply, but you must only preference Midwifery positions.
Each year, the Match process is reserved exclusively for candidates who are newly eligible. Allowing unmatched applicants from previous years to re-enter would create a cumulative disadvantage for current graduates.
Only candidates from the 2025 Match whose training completion date has been delayed into 2026 are permitted to re-apply.
- Training completed before 2026 (not graduation date).
- Training was undertaken outside Australia/NZ.
- EN/EEN graduates unless completing RN training
- Holiday visa holders
- Candidates who have previously started or completed an RN or RM graduate program.
- Candidates enrolled in Postgraduate Diplomas of Midwifery – Employment model
Special consideration may be available for circumstances such as parental leave or hardship.
If you believe you’re eligible for special consideration, email supporting documents (e.g., birth certificate or doctor’s letter) to allocations@pmcv.com.au only during the Match Open period. Your application will be assessed and you will be notified of the outcome.
The following candidates will be categorised as Priority Group 1.
- Victorian permanent residents currently living in Victoria and studying with an approved Victorian education provider
- First Nations people
- Victorian permanent residents currently living in Victoria and studying online via an interstate university (distance education)
- Victorian permanent residents living interstate in a location on the approved list of border communities
The following candidates will be classified as Priority Group 2:
- Candidates requiring Visas to have the Right to Work in Australia.
- Interstate Candidates (excluding Border Candidates from the eligible list).
- New Zealand permanent residents/citizens.
Referees
You must provide two clinical referees via PMCV. Ensure you obtain your referees’ permission before entering their details.

If you are unsure whether a referee or clinical placement is suitable, please consult your university. PMCV is unable to provide advice on referee eligibility.
