GNMP Match

The Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV) conducts the Graduate Nurse Midwifery Program (GNMP) Match on behalf of the Department of Health.

All Victorian Public Health Service and two Private Health Services participate in the PMCV Match to recruit graduates for Nursing, Midwifery, Mental Health, Aged Care, Paramedicine, or combinations of, for the following year graduate placements.

Candidates entering the Match must agree to abide by the Code of Conduct and Match Rules to participate. Ensure you read these documents carefully.

2024 GNMP Match Overview

Late Vacancy Stage

The Late Vacancy Stage is open and will remain open until January 2025.

  • PMCV candidates who indicate they which to participate in the Late Vacancy stage details including their video link, will be provided to Health Services with vacancies. Health Services may contact you directly, but applying directly, shows that you are interested.
  • Non PMCV candidates do not need to complete a survey and can apply directly to the Health Services.


Application Process:

  • Candidates are to apply to any and as many as they wish, directly to the Health Service participating in the Late Vacancy stage.
  • Candidates do not need to create an account with PMCV. 
  • The application requirements are set by each Health Service and will be available on their website, links available via the Health Service Directory
  • If you have applied to a Health Service previously, check if they are happy to accept your previous application.
  • Candidates will need to provide all the requested documentation to the Health Services. Health Services cannot access this information from PMCV unless the candidates applied to that Health Service previously.
  

Important: PMCV’s Candidate Portal (APS) will not be available to add or change referee details or to complete a video interview during this time. 

Eligible candidates

  • Unmatched RN/RM candidates
  • Final year RN/RM students that did not apply to the Match
  • 2024 Match ineligible candidates e.g. finished training prior to January 2024

 

Who is not eligible to participate

  • Candidates who received an allocation in the 2024 GNMP Match cannot apply. Match outcomes are binding.
  • Candidates who have already participated in a Graduate Nursing Midwifery program.
 

Participating Health Services:

  • Only Health Services that have remaining vacancies will participate.
  • GNMP website’s Heath Service Directory will display the participating Health Services 
  • The Health Service Directory will be fluid adding/removing positions as required.
  • Additional vacancies may become available throughout this process right through till January 2025, as matched candidate’s circumstances may change. Keep checking back in throughout this time for new openings.


2024 Match Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Match candidates must meet the following criteria:
  • Will qualify for registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Midwife (RM) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • Completed all training requirements between 1 January 2024 and 30 June 2025.
  • Be an Australian/NZ citizen OR temporary resident who holds a visa that gives them the “Right to Work” in Australia.
and meet one of the following criteria:
Victorian resident studying at an approved Victorian education provider (including Australian Trained Temporary Residents)
OR
Victorian resident studying on-line at an Interstate University (via Distance Education)
OR
Interstate residents living in a Victorian border community on the approved list (see GNMP website for full list of towns)
OR
Interstate/New Zealand residents relocating to Victoria in 2025. A Statutory declaration is mandatory requirement.
Ineligible for the Match
  • Your training was not completed in Australia.
  • Previously participated in a RN/RM nursing or midwifery graduate program*.  
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery – Employment model 
  • Completed their training prior to January 2024. 
  • Interstate (excluding border communities) or New Zealand candidates not relocating to Victoria in 2025 OR fail to provide the mandatory Statutory Declaration. 
  • Studying to be an EN or EEN 
  • Candidates on a Holiday Visa
  • PMCV has the discretion to refuse to include or remove an applicant in the GNMP match pursuant to its Code of Conduct and approved policies.
*If you have previously completed a RN graduate program and are now studying for a subsequent Bachelor of Midwifery/PG Midwifery you are eligible to apply for the match, but you must only select Midwifery positions in your preference list.
 
Exceptions
  • Candidates with a delayed course completion from 2023 Match can reapply.

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery – clinical placement model. These candidates are eligible but must only preference midwifery positions.

  • Special circumstances to be approved by PMCV e.g., parental leave.

Note:
  • Ineligible interstate and New Zealand candidates are welcome to participate in the Late Vacancy process commencing Monday 9 September.
